How can my girlfriend not have pain during sex?

We recently just had sex for the first time. But she has pain during intercourse. I heard that fingering her and expanding her vaginal walls will make her a little more loose and make her enjoy having sex more. Is this true?

It just takes time. My best advice is to use lube and take it easy.
